A drunken quarrel turned deadly in Vivek Nagar as a 63-year-old man allegedly strangled his 48-year-old live-in partner and left her body on a footpath. The couple are said to have fought frequently over petty issues.
The deceased has been identified as Geetha alias Manju, while the accused, Jerry Antony, has been arrested by police. Cops said the couple were homeless ragpickers who slept on footpaths near the BDA Complex, a church and elsewhere. Antony, who was allegedly addicted to alcohol, got into a heated argument with Geetha Friday. Between 4pm and 4.45pm, Antony allegedly strangled her on 4th Cross, Vivek Nagar, before fleeing. Police were alerted about the body around 10pm. The accused was arrested the following day.
During interrogation, Antony allegedly confessed to the crime and said he and Geetha had been in a relationship for five years.
