The family of Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai offered 100g of gold to the Sri Mahalingeshwara temple in Puttur on Sunday as a contribution towards preparing a golden armour (swarna kavacha) for the deity.
Rai told reporters on Sunday that 100g of gold was also offered on behalf of the family for constructing the golden armour of Sri Mahishamardini Devi of Matanthabettu.
The MLA noted that devotees have long wished to see the deity adorned in a Swarna Kavacha. “The donation supports the temple's initiative to adorn the deity with a golden kavacha, fulfilling the devotees' wishes. While the temple treasury currently holds around six kg gold, an additional five kg is needed to complete the project.
Although I previously promised to contribute 50g gold, I have now doubled my offering. As a regular devotee of Lord Mahalingeshwara, I view this contribution as a privilege and a humble service to the Lord," he said.
Efforts will be made to arrange the required quantity of gold, he said, adding, “We will strive to collect gold and complete the Swarna Kavacha within the next six months if devotees contribute to the project.”
